The Quick Quacks in Lincoln
September 2002
Words by Sarah: -
We came, we saw and we conquered Lincolnshire, at least. The meetings keep getting better and better.
First up was Cadwell Park on the Friday. Six intrepid Quacks plus a few friends took to the circuit. Steve and Yoav in the steady group, Sarah, Bonny and Homer in the intermediate group and Purple Haze in the fast group, along with Steve and Sarah's friend Chris and his mate Dave. The track day was very well organised by Track Sense
The day didn't start well - there was a torrential downpour during the briefing. This seemed like a recipe for carnage, and anyway why pay to ride in the wet when you can do it almost any day of the week for free? Fortunately the track dried progressively before lunch, and we had a great time, increasing speed and confidence. More rain after lunch meant a lot of folks went home, but the Quacks stayed to the end.
After a great dinner and rather too much wine on Friday night at the Admiral Rodney in Horncastle, where the group were staying, John B had planned the most amazing route. I thought Lincolnshire would be flat and boring. No way! The roads were stunning - a great mix of fast sweepers, tight technical bends and places you could just have a good blast. We wound our way gently down to the Pearoom for coffee. Then followed the Bardney Bends towards Lincoln for lunch. Here we parked outside the Cathedral on the lawn (in the middle of a wedding party) and went into town for lunch. After lunch was a blast to Skegness for ice cream and saucy postcards on the sea front, followed by Revesy Bends on the way home. The jewel in the crown kept until last in my opinion - what a wonderful day! And no rain either!!
To view these clips you may need to downoad Divx
These were some early attempts at videoing the quick quacks. This was also when I first considered using these videos to point out good and bad points in our riding. Light during this run was very poor for filming.
Quickies
Recorded at 340kbs and 29fps.
| Effect of an early turn in Rupert runs out to the left after apexing early on a right hander. | Overtakes ........................... | Brake lights Unnecessary braking and comfort braking. |
| Effect of a late turn in Ruprt turns late into a left hander thus staying out too wide and is exposed to riders coming the other way. | More overtakes Arrving at the overtake as the gap develops is not an accident, look ahead and time it. | |
| "Triangle of death" pre-overtake position GG demonstrates "bee round honeypot" syndrome | Correct turn in for left hander Good visibility so no need to go very deep into the corner. Exit lines up nicely with next right hander. |
Longer
Recorded at 340kbs and 29fps.
|
Nice pre-overtake and overtake GG goes through the phases. Rest of the clip is just enjoying the road. |
Sweeping up Sweeper collects marker. Rest of clip just for fun. |
| Failed attempt to indicate CtC needs fuel Tried to tell GG that CtC needs fuel, failed miserably! | Jeanne's nice lines Doubel entendre deliberate. |
| CtC demonstrates nice lines |
